the thing itself and not the myth

When she left the Wood with nothing, it was the Sea that gave her everything: a name to carry with pride, a crew to wash away her loneliness, an axe to defend them with. It swallowed twelve years of her life before it swallowed her leg, and she fled for the safety of land before it could swallow more.Yet even as Forestay tried to eke out a relatively honest living on land, like so many Lominsan pirates before her, she kept hearing the Sea call to her. But then Admiral Bloefhiswyn proposed something outrageous; the very institution of piracy that gave her power in the first place was to be consigned to the annals of history, making way for a golden age of prosperity and commerce that even Garlemald would enjoy. For better or for worse, Forestay returns to the only life she knows - one at sea, with a new crew to sate Her bottomless appetite for Garlean sloops.

A tall, powerfully built rava viera standing at six fulm three (seven fulm four if one counts her seafoam streaked ears), Forestay is used to drawing attention wherever she goes. And while she's quick to return any stares with a disarmingly cheerful smile and friendly wave, those with a more perceptive gaze might note the strain at its edges and the periodic glances to the nearest exit. From the thick, ropy scars that crisscross her toned arms to the prosthesis that creaks with each step, each mark tells a different story, but all with the same underlying current: a woman who has weathered many storms and survived.Forestay speaks in a raspy, heavy La Noscean accent that has thoroughly drowned out the soft burr more commonly associated with wayward children of Golmore, with her voice lilting and shifting in pitch and tone like the tides.

the evidence of damage

Forestay can often be found...

  • ...at the local watering hole, catching local news and gossip between pints.

  • ...scouring the huntboards of each city state throughout eorzea and beyond.

  • ...near any body of water, sometimes with a fishing rod in hand.

  • ...making regular visits to the Alchemists' Guild, Rosewood Stalls, and Culinarians' Guild.

  • ...with several bounties for outstanding medical debts.

worn by salt and sway into this threadbare beauty

hook 1 Though it has been some time since she last sailed with the Kraken's Arms, her pride and joy — Riptide III (don't ask about the first two) — remains as sharp as ever. For the right amount of gil (or even a few pints), pick a target and Forestay will eliminate it. One can often find her scouring the hunt boards or waiting in line to speak with the local levemete, and she's not one to turn down company for a job if it pays well enough.hook 2 The axe may have forgotten, but the Wood still remembers; though Forestay does her best to pretend otherwise, her roots run deep and strong. Thus far she's managed to avoid talking about her exile from Atoel in much the same way she's managed to avoid fraternizing with other viera — with a thoroughness too deliberate to be coincidental. As more viera make their way to Eorzea, however, she might not have much of a choice in the matter...hook 3 From noble houses in Ishgard to cafes in Gridania, Forestay has worn many different aprons over the last decade of her culinary career. Lately she seems keen on preparing her own recipes, however, and has started popping up throughout various marketplaces with a well-worn food cart. Rumor has it that her desserts in particular have certain "medicinal" properties.hook 4 Potions, salves, rum, moko — there's nothing Forestay hasn't looked into or tried in her near endless quest to manage the chronic pain that comes with a dodgy amputation and years of making do with shoddy mobility aids. Though her optimism wanes with each failed treatment, she's still willing to offer her services — or one of many sizeable loans — in exchange for proper medical care.

Between work and other hobbies, my own availability is somewhat limited. that said, I'm happy to schedule something if you're interested in writing a scene together.I like one-shots and longer arcs equally, though I prefer a balance between humorous and serious stuff in my writing. I'm especially interested in characters that can challenge each other and grow together. While I'm not averse to writing darker themes, I am uninterested in any scenes involving real world -isms or sexual violence.themes
